He bought food and as he sat down to eat, an old man and two little children came along and asked him to help them with food as they had not eaten for almost a week. He

looked at them.. They were so lean that he could see their bones coming out. Their eyes had gone into the socket. With the last bit of compassion he had, he gave them the food. The old man and children prayed that God would bless and prosper him and then gave him a very old coin . The young graduate said to them ‘you need the prayer more than I do’.

With no money, no job, no food, the young graduate went under the bridge to rest and wait for death. As he was about to sleep, he saw an old newspaper on the ground. He picked it up, and suddenly he saw an advertisement for people with old coins to come to a certain address.

He decided to go there with the old coin the old man gave him. On getting to the place, he gave the proprietor the coin. The proprietor screamed, brought out a big book and showed the young graduate a photograph. This same old coin was worth 3 million dollars. The young graduate was overjoyed as the proprietor gave him a bank draft for 3 million do llars within an hour.. He collected the Bank Draft and went in se arc h of the old man and little children.

By the time he got to where he left them eating, they had gone.. He asked the owner of the canteen if he knew them. He said no but they left a note for you. He quickly opened the note thinking it would lead him to find them.

This is what the note said: ‘You gave us your all and we have rewarded you back with the coin,’ signed God the Father , The Son and The Holy Ghost . 1 Kings 17:10 -16; Matthew 11:28 -30

While pregnant, they took cold or cough medicine, a tee Linunod, balikutsa, bukhayo  and didn’t worry about diabetes.

Then after all that trauma, our baby cribs were made of hard wood covered with lead-based paints, ang uban kay duyan nga habol gihigtan ug pisi nga inigtabyog ug kusog ma pakong intawon ta sa bongbong.

We had no soft cushy cribs that play music, no disposable diapers (lampin lang sa General Milling nga naa’y faded picture nga nag-salute) and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, nokneepads, wa pa gyu’y break ang bisikleta.

As children, we would ride in hot un-airconditioned buses with wooden seats (Bisaya Bus nga pultahan puros ang kilid, Corominas Bus nga senimana ang brake, trak ni Nitoy ug Ninoy), or cars with no airconditioning & no seat belts   (karon kay Minibus na nga nindot kaayo ug sounds or Ceres Bus nga bugnaw ug aircon)

Riding on the back of a carabao  on a breezy summer day was considered a treat. (karon; ang mga bata wa na kaila ug Kabaw)

We drank water from the garden hose and NOT bottled mineral water sa Nature Spring or Viva, or Absolute Mineral water (usahay gani, straight from the faucet or poso or Tabay!)

We shared one soft drink bottle with four of our friends, and NO ONE actually died from this. Or contacted hepatitis.

We ate rice with star margarine, bahaw nga gibutangan ug asin ug mantika sa baboy, linong-ag saging ug ginamos, drank raw eggs straight from the shell, and dranksofdrinks with real sugar in it (dili diet coke or Pepsi Max), but we weren’t sick or overweight kay……

WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, and get back when the streetlights came on. Syatong, Bato-Lata, Bagol, Dakop-Dakop, Tago-Tago, Ngita’g Kakak.

No one was able to reach us all day( wala pa’y uso ang cellphone) . And yes, we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our wooden trolleys (kadtong bearing ang ligid) or Karitong Kawayan nga karaang tsinilas ang giporma nga ligid and then ride down the street, wa ma’y gidungog nga naligsan atoh!  After hitting the sidewalk or falling into a canal (sewage channel) a few times, we learned to solve the problem ourselves with our bare & dirty hands.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo’s, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 100 channels on cable, no DVD movies, no surround stereo, no IPOD’s, no cell phones, no computers, no Internet, no chat rooms, and no Friendsters. …….. …WE HAD REAL FRIENDS and we went outside to actually talk and play with them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no stupid lawsuits from these accidents. The only rubbing we get is from our friends with the words..sakit bai ? pero kung kontra gani nimo ang imong kadula,,,,singgitan lang dayon ug..Maayora, Gabaan!

We played marbles (jolen) in the dirt, washed our hands just a little and ate Pan Bahug bahug & Bagumbayan(recycled bread man diay to kay wa mahalin!) We were not afraid of getting germs in our stomachs.

We had to live with homemade toy guns (giporma nga kahoy, gihigtan ug garter ug lastiko), saplong, tirador ug uban pa nga pwedeng magkasakitay. Pero lingaw gihapon kaayo ang tanan.

We made up games with sticks (syatong), and cans (Bato-Lata) and although we were told they were dangerous, wa man gyud to’y actual nga nabuta bah, bukol lang nuon sa agtang naa.

We walked, rode bikes, or took tricycles to a friend’s house and knocked on the door or batoon ug gagmay nga bato ang bungbong, or just yelled for them to jump out the window!

Mini basketball teams had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn’t pass had to learn to deal with the disappointment. Wa pa nang mga childhood depression ug damaged self esteem ek-ek ra na. Ang maglagot, pildi.

Ang mga Ginikanan naa ra sa daplin para motan-aw ra sa duwa sa mga bata, dili para manghilabot ug makig-away sa ubang parents.

That generation of ours has produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers, creative thinkers and successful professionals ever! They are the CEO’s, Engineers, Doctors and Military Generals of today.

The past 60 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had failure, success, and responsibility. We learned from our mistakes the hard way.

When we got to our first destination (gerelyn’s house) where we took our lunch. The viand hmmm… oh, yeah my favorite SHRIMP! After we took our lunch, most of us were eager to go to the second destination – the PASSIG ISLET. It was not that easy as you think… u need to take a fishing boat (lancha) it’s the only transportation. It’s about 15 mins. ride to the Islet.

Passig Islet is a man-made islet, a white-sand beach, located at Bato, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur. They only have 8-10 cottages, each cottages cost about 300-500 pesos each and no entrance fee and there are few coconut trees that was half-buried within the islet white-sand, it’s still not yet developed but there are lot of people went to swim and enjoyed the place. There is no big wave to expect, the water was just plain as a lake. And the perfect time to go there should be high-tide you can’t appreciate the place when it was low tide definitely the only thing you can see is the white sand and tires around the isle.

Though I am unfortunate to pleased myself just because we went there in low-tide. But I still did enjoy the place, the sky did accord with us the sun hide its face behind the clouds and you can feel the breeze (the rain is coming) but the wind blew it away from the islet.The sun tried to peep but still too shy to face us. But the low tide doesn’t overtook me, I still dip myself into the cold water together with arjay’s officemates (there some part of the islet shoreline that was dug by the wheel loader). The rain started to fall from the sky along with the wind that blew a cold air. (It was really freezing) Agnes (Arjay’s officemates) took a lot of pixes around the islet and I only got few pixes, my camera’s battery went low and even my spare battery too… (how pity…)

It was almost 5:00pm when we were ready to go home… but the boat that we expected can’t fetch us, it was still in low tide state, so we need to stay awhile in the islet and wait for the high-tide. After two hours the boat came and we took a ride back to gerelyn’s place (just the 4 of us me, arjay, gerelyn and jomar). It was still low tide so we need to used the paddle, the water was smooth as it was… the journey was a mixed emotion the wind that touched our faces make us feel freezing it was total darkness and you can only see a light from the seashore but there no need to be scared though something went wrong we can still survived. The water was just only 3feet high.

And lastly, me and arjay took a single motor or “habal-habal” to Digos City terminal it was almost 8:30 pm when we rode a bus home and arrived past 9:00pm in Davao. Though it was tiresome day just got very lucky I got escaped from the city and from work… lolz!
